Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif’s pairing electrifies the film Baar Baar Dekho. Just that and nothing more.
Much was expected out of Nitya Mehra’s film. After working as an assistant director in films like Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pie’ and Mira Nair films The Namesake, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, she disappoints in her directorial debut in this romantic drama Baar Baar Dekho.
Baar Baar Dekho also marks the debut of American screenwriter Sri Rao which made news about this film which is based on an ageing romance spanning 30 odd years.
Jai Verma (Sidharth Malhotra) is a Mathematics Professor in Delhi. Diya (Katrina Kaif) is an artist who is madly in love with this handsome professor. They are about to get married when Jai scoffs at the Hindu priest at the time of their wedding about the institution of marriage.
The commitment phobic Jai is more career inclined and dreams to move to Cambridge and teach there. It is shown that Jai pulls back which leads to Diya being depressed and Jai drowning himself with alcohol throughout the night. Next morning he wakes up and is on his honeymoon in Thailand and is married for ten days, yet doesn’t recollect about whatever happened to him in this time-frame.
With a Non linear story telling, it is shown that Jai and Diya are childhood friends with Jai adopting an attitude tilting towards his career, which over the next couple of hours is shown as they are years ahead in life as whenever Jai wakes up from his sleep, he is in a different time period and place. He is confused about whats happening to his life.
At one time, we are taken forward to the year 2034. The audience is confused about what is happening in the film. Hence, we leave it here.
On second thoughts, what if we get the chance to correct the mistakes of our life? And what if we get a chance to revise our actions and deeds accordingly to evade erroneous decisions in life?
This is what occurs to our mind after sitting all through this confusing drama.
Fresh pairing of handsome dude Sidharth Malhotra with smashing Katrina Kaif, and the films stunning cinematography with superb visuals of Glasgow in Scotland, Krabi in Thailand are its positive aspects.
